Many Web Servers host more than one Web site, and many sites host many applications Keeping sites and applications isolated from one another is an essential security technique These design steps are interdependent, and the elements that are used in a specific design will depend on the business needs of a Web site, as well as the requirements of the Web server A Web server is often used to host multiple Web sites; therefore, designing security for the Web server will also include designing security for each Web site hosted The security needs of each site might be similar (for example, when an organization wants to host multiple departmental Web sites on a single Web server), or the security needs might be diverse (if, for example, an ISP needs to host thousands of Web sites, each from a different customer, on a single server)..

This entity manager method allows you to have complex mappings for your native SQL. You can return multiple entities and scalar column values at the same time. Logman The Logman command manages and schedules performance counter and event trace log collections on local and remote systems. Perfmon The Perfmon command allows you to open a Performance console configured with the System Monitor ActiveX control and Performance Logs And Alerts service. Relog The Relog command extracts performance counters from performance counter logs into other formats, such as text-TSV (tab-delimited text), text-CSV (comma-delimited text), binary-BIN, or SQL. Tracerpt The Tracerpt command processes event trace logs or real-time data from instrumented event trace providers and allows you to generate trace analysis reports and CSV files for the events generated. Typeperf The Typeperf command writes performance counter data to the com mand window or to a supported log file format. Lodctr The Lodctr command registers new performance counter names and Explain text for a service or device driver, and saves and restores counter settings and Explain text. Unlodctr The Unlodctr command removes performance counter names and Explain text for a service or device driver from the system registry.

Therefore, the first step in designing security for IIS is to understand the choices that can be made and then apply them to the specific needs of a Web server/Web site com bination. This lesson follows that approach, as does the list of steps just shown. The first five steps, which can be approached in any order from a design standpoint, should be followed in order during implementation. They discuss the options that are available and provide some suggestions as to when they should be used. Additional secu rity is also necessary for the Web site/Web server combination, the design of content management, and the monitoring and maintenance parts of the design.

Excessive monitoring effects server performance, so monitor only the objects and counters required. Monitor objects and counters remotely where possible to reduce the performance impact of monitoring on the server you would like to monitor. You can also use the Logman.exe utility to configure specific logging operations from the command line, batch file, or scheduled job.
